Harry Potter Birthday Party

Kids
Location: The Soho House
If your children read these books well past their curfew and they eagerly await their Hogwarts acceptance letter for their 11th birthday, you know what party theme would be perfect for them. Harry Potter birthday parties are always full of magic, fun and quirky British details that make this theme picture-perfect.

Solution:

For that particular Harry Potter party in Soho House White City, we focused on creating a few themed zones for the guests to enjoy: the children were welcomed by our entertainers dressed like Hogwarts students, who invited them to get on the Sorting Hat and get their house pronounced. They were even handed out scarves with house colours to ensure that they can easily recognise their classmates.

The stage was turned into a simple yet effective photozone with asymmetric balloon installation and Harry Potter-themed props: think broomsticks, potion cauldrons, book pages, luggage trunks, and the owl cage with Hedwig, Harry's white owl.

The sitting area was turned into the Hogwarts Main Hall with long rows of tables set for dinner with a bunch of magical props, four house flags proudly on display and the suspended ceiling of balloons in matching colours to set the mood.

The activities started with balloon modelling and bonding games. After lunch, children were invited for themed quest-competitions, where each of the four schools completed a series of magical challenges (think flying on the brooms, guessing the flavours of Bertie Bott's jelly beans, catching the golden snitch, and so on) to win the sweet treasure. The dining room turned into a potions classroom, and children joined professors-scientists for a hands-on chemical show and workshop.

For the grand finale, we had a silver paper disco. The DJ set the mood with the best dance hits and the entertainers got everyone - children and parents alike - up their feet for some dancing and playing with the paper. When leaving, each guest received a handmade Harry Potter-themed cookie and a pack of jelly beans. What a party it was!
